Building STACH (#Project20Millionnaija)

in #nigeria7 years ago (edited)

In her essay, first published anonymously in the Times of London on January 8 1897, Flora Shaw coined ‘Nigeria’ as a shorter alternative to the widely named ‘Royal Niger Company Territories’- deeming it ‘inconvenient’ and to an extent a ‘misleading’ name for the then British Protectorate. Today, in contrast, ‘Nigeria’ is too small a word to encompass its 192.3m (worldometer, August 2015) population; more than 250 distinct ethnic groups and some 510 living languages on a landmass of 923,768sqkm- an area about twice the size of Sweden (The Report, 2012).

Every society faces constraints imposed either by nature or by man at any moment in time, and people group together to find a solution to their deprivation and in most Third World Countries like ours, such are expressed violently. Nigeria is handsomely endowed by nature with fertile land, water and other natural resources and the pace of economic growth and development of our country is determined, among other things, by the depth of resources endowment of the country, and proper harnessing and utilization of these resources. Despite the abundant natural and human resources available to us which could have served as a source of power for international relations, the country remain characterized by poverty, corruption, hopelessness and underdevelopment that have remained a constant occurrence since independence. Over the years, the case of Nigeria has become very instructive; Nigeria consistently gets mentioned on the wrong side of human development indicators of various international agencies.  Nigeria is posited to have exhibited the status of a failed State over time, the first military coup was based on the grounds of “getting rid of rotten and corrupt ministers, political parties, trade unions and the whole clumsy apparatus of the Federal System” (Max Siollun, 2005). We have 100% arable land, unlimited natural resources but yet we are very ‘poor’ in the midst of plenty. We are the strongest manpower on planet earth, yet weeds have grown over our crops. I strongly believe that we have no business to be poor even though a greater number of the population lives below poverty line. Nigeria is one of the world’s leading oil producing nations whose citizens are hardly well served with fuel, ironically described by Adamolekun (2003) as a typical cobbler whose children go barefooted.

BUT THERE IS STILL HOPE!

We are a strong and proud people who can attain the impossible and do the unthinkable.

 WHY STACH
Looking around Nigeria, you will see a disappointing reality of the failure of a system that only teaches dependency on state provided jobs and assets, and this has made it near impossible for the youths and citizenry to aspire beyond what they are thought to know.
With the discovery of Steemit by most Nigerians, we have come to see a much bigger world that teaches self dependency and growth powered by community participation. A place where liberty-minded people are welcomed to create their world, mine their earnings, and transact in STEEM cryptocurrency that is instant and free to use.
 THE TEAM
The STACH team is made up of @ejemai, @outhori5ed, @kamaraoti, @kennyc and @dante21 and our technical adviser is @donkeypong. Each member of the team are versed in various activities and we will be revealing these in future posts.

I am very glad to be in the great team. And i am grateful to @ejemai the initiator of the idea and @donkeypong for the advise and immense support. i also want to thank every team member for their relentless drive for this cause. i ask every Nigerian presently on steemit to fuse energy together to ensure that many more Nigerians get empowered through steemit. We can do this...Nothing is difficult for us to attain.

100% of this post reward (and any donations received) will go to fund the costs of creating the Steemit Accelerator Hub (STACH).
