MY LAMENTATIONS ABOUT NYSC

Most of you who have been reading my blog on here, will definitely know that i am currently serving my country. I have taken time to analyse my time here serving my country and i can say the platform is currently faulty.

Most persons will not agree with me because they have found good fortune while serving. I have not met with misfortune though, but i dont think i have had the best time serving this country. For those who dont agree with my opinion, i have to say NYSC does not provide equal opportunities to every one, because while some are sent to  major companies others are sent to the desert to suffer. Let me share an experience. Some of the coppers posted to my LGA where posted to areas where you need to cross at least two rivers to get to the ppa. On their way to their  PPA they were robbed on the boat by pirates and they collected all they had brought for their upkeep. One corper was pushed into the water and she was without a life jacket, if not for God in his mercy that caused a broken tree to float on the water she would have drowned.

On getting to the island they were stranded and it took the grace of God for them to return back to dry land.

This is just one of the many stories that have been hidden.

Or should i talk about the camp embezzlement that is so clear to the blind. In camp they give us food meant for dogs and after camp we fall  terribly sick. Let me leave the details because every one who has been in NYSC orientation camp in the past 2years untill recently can relate.

Most graduates are excited for the NYSC scheeme maybe because of the stipend or    the intrigue of traveling around the country.

But these are really what we suffer;

For the allawee, its barely enough to keep body and soul, it might do for corp members in the north and west o, but for us in the south most especially in Rivers state, it will not even cover accomodation , if you dont have extra money, you are doomed, except you are posted to a good place where accomodation is provided for. Aside from that the cost of living generally is high. The price of garri alone is N800.

I know the initial plan for NYSC was to streghten unity for nigeria. Rite now i feel like NYSC has lost its purpose. The only thing making my time here worth the while is the friends i have made and NCCF.

 I do not also think that NYSC should be scrapped totally, i think if they can restructure it in such a way that it provides equal opportunity for everyone and the allawance is increased also the risk of life is reduced then NYSC will do better. 

Its my opinion and lamentation.
