Rabbit fever this an infection in rabbits and other rodents caused by bacterium Francisella tularensis that can be transmitted to humans by contact with infected animal tissues this infection is also called tularemia.

This infection is infected by having direct contact with an infected animal or from tick, mosquito, or deer fly bites, the disease is life-threatening. There are various forms of infection where by this bacteria can enter the human body but the most common are direct contact is the skin of animal carrying the disease. The deadliest form of this disease is caused by inhaling the bacteria.
Rabbit fever can be treated at an early stage with antibiotics, however, some severe cases may be fatal even with treatment.

Rabbit fever is rare, there are usually 100 to 200 reported cases in the United States each year.

Symptoms

The symptoms depending on where the bacteria enters your body which include: red spot on the skin enlarging to an ulcer, enlarged lymph nodes (swollen glands) in the groin or armpits, headache, muscle pain, shortness of breath, fever, Chills, sweating, weight loss, joint stiffness, Fatigue, dry cough, Vomiting, Diarrhea.

Risk Factors

Animals carry the bacteria increased the risk of getting the disease if you have frequent contact with animals. People at high risk are veterinarians, zookeepers, and park rangers.

DIAGNOSIS

Isn't easy because it can often appear like other diseases tests for this disease include:

  1. A serology test for antibodies your body has created to fight the bacteria.
  2. A pleural fluid takes a look at, which tests the fluid from the pleurae within the chest hollow space.
  3. Pores and skin biopsy of a lesion and microscopic examination searching out the presence of tularemia.
  4. A lymph node biopsy, it really is the elimination of tissue from a lymph node for examination.
  5. A bone marrow biopsy, it is the removal of a sample of bone marrow for the exam.

Treatment

ciprofloxacin
doxycycline (Vibramycin)
gentamicin, which is usually used to treat oculoglandular tularemia
Streptomycin.
