Nigerian prisoners and the minimum wage

in #nigeria6 years ago

If after working for 30/31 days a month, troubles of transportation, accommodation, tax, feeding etc, the Nigerian government cannot pay more than N50,000 minimum wage to her workers, then the government is a big failure.

The Nigerian government claims it spends 14,000 Naira to feed prisoners on a daily basis. The Minister for Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau disclosed this in a town hall meeting held at Kaduna, Northwest Nigeria.
“There are about 57,000 inmates spread across the country with over 70 percent awaiting trial,” he explained.

No doubt about the fact that these inmates are our brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, uncles etc, but are they truly being fed that amount on a daily basis? They are not even fed N10,000 on a monthly basis not to talk of weekly they are now saying daily.
I visited ikoyi prison sometimes around June this year, I almost wept when I saw the state some of these inmates were, no one will ever believe these people are in Nigeria, if not that I took their pictures, I'll believe they are in a country where they are fighting war.
If they claim N14,000 is used to feed inmates on daily basis then they should as well pay her workers N14,000 daily too to make it N420,000 monthly. Are they trying to say the prisoners are better than the free folks?
How do they expect a man with a wife and two children to survive with N18,000 minimum wage on a monthly basis.
How are they expecting such man not to be corrupt?
How will he work with 100% concentration?
Can he ever give his best having at the back of his mind that inmates are claimed to be living better than he his?
Will it not be advisable to commit a crime and get jailed since inmates are living a better life?

Are these people looking like they fed even N50 daily?

Now let's do the maths
If each inmate feeds on N14,000 daily, that means in 30 days (a month) they will have spent N14,000 times 30 days = N420,000 on them per head (only on feeding), they don't pay house rent, transportation, medical bill, electricity bill, water bill etc.
Meanwhile;
A government worker who is on a minimum wage of N18,000 monthly.
In each day, he survives on N18,000 divided by 30 days = N600 daily. He pays house rent, transportation, feeding, electricity bill, water bill and tax from this money.

Government is not serious, they are liars, they don't have the interest of the masses at heart, they are very wicked.
I'm 100% in support of the nation wide strike they want to embark on tomorrow, it's like that's the only language (strike) the government understands.
Meanwhile, none of them can be placed on minimum wage, they earn hundred of millions of naira, this is not part of the money they steal, but they want the common man to survive on N18,000 monthly, the money that will not be enough for them in a minute.

LET THE STRIKE BEGIN!!!
Thanks for your time.
