Social Values and Modernization - How Modernization Has Eroded Our Social Values in Nigeria
Modernization also known as civilization has not only made life worth living in this part of the world (Nigeria) but has also opened a vista of hitherto opportunities in every area of our lives. Modernization has also robbed off positively on us. In fact, it has enhanced the quality of human resources in the country.
However, at the approach of all this importance of modernization and its razzmatazz, quite a lot of our much cherished social and traditional values, so to say have been eroded due to the emergence of the said modernization and the result of this erosion is immeasurable.
If I may start with our own society, before modernization, virginity was so much cherished in marriage. This used to be a mark of not only decency but also moral uprightness on the part of the new wife but modernization has set in, making important virtue to be grossly irrelevant. Now it is as long as we love each other(male and female), virginity or no virginity is no problem. Hence many fruitless marriages have emerged from this negligence and has taken over our moral standards in the name of modernization.
Another area worthy of mentioning that modernization has eroded in our society is the area of corruption. Individuals now see corruption as a normal thing. Before now, anyone who stole had his name and that of his family back listed. Some of them who were entitled to prominent traditional titles were denied of the title. In fact, such could lead to total ostracize, but these days, corruption flies around even in high places. A politician will steel government money and will use the same stolen wealth to fight back. He will even succeed in getting a higher office.
Today the latest trend is sex dolls and their likes, and humans will be proud to purchase such. This is the height of social and societal anomaly all in the name of modernization. One day, getting married to animals will become a norm, and it will also be termed modernization.
To conclude this here, if we don't go back to the old days of moral sanctity, we may all get our fingers burnt in the process.

They are almost loosing it all to an alarming rate. Imagine where secondary school students will be asking teachers out. That one na it the pain me pass.
