It happened again...

It happened again. Waking up with a panicked scream had become an uncomfortable regularity and he was getting sick and tired of it.

Every day for the past two weeks he had woken up screaming at the top of his lungs and covered in a thick layer of sweat. What was most annoying however, was the fact that as soon as he wakes up, whatever nightmare he may have been having disappears from memory. Again and again he tries to remember what terrified him so much but again and again he failed to do so.

He looked at the time. 3:14am. Dammit. He knew there would be no more sleep that night so there would be no pint in trying so he decided to get on with his day. He began to think of what he would wear to work that morning before it occurred to him that it was a Saturday. He was up super early on a Saturday with nothing to do throughout the entire day. Dammit.

He brought out his phone. Facebook. He scrolled through his feed and updates as he disinterestedly went past Mindless post after mindless post after mindless post. He clicked the 'like' button a couple of times on a couple of posts, not because he liked the posts or even cared about them, but because he liked the posters and he would want them to like his own posts I'm future. He paused and tried to remember his dream but he couldn't and this frustrated him even more.

Soon he got tired of facebook and switched to instagram. He scrolled past picture after picture as boredom engulfed him. He got to a picture that physically angered him. It was a picture of his ex girlfriend. It was a picture of her 'flexing' at the mall and it was captioned 'living da gud life'. He knew she was broke. He knew she lived with three other girls in a single room. He knew she could barely afford to eat so how dare she pretend on the internet that she was... 'fucking broke Ass slay queen' he muttered loudly to himself. He entered her profile to click the 'unfollow' button but changed his mind. He knew he and his friend would mock her later. He also knew that what really made him so angry is that he had lost sleep and couldn't remember why. He closed the app.

Twitter. He was never really interested in twitter. He only joined because everyone else was on it. First couple of tweets to come across him time line were posts calling for likes and retweets to gain more followers. 'Bullshit' he muttered to himself. He was getting increasingly irritated. Then he saw a tweet from his ex. 'Had a blast 2day with ma gurls #painting da town red #spending dat mulla #living da gud life'. 'Broke biiiitch' he screamed as he flailed his arms wildly knocking down the cup of water beside his bed in rage. The cup rolled toward the refrigerator beside his bed. He sighed in frustration as he put his phone down to try to summon the strength to clean the water up. He remembered that the wires of his fridge needed replacement as they were old and damaged. He also needed to figure out what that awful sound the fridge made when it came on was. Everytime he put it on he would wait for his stabilizer's delay function to time out and then brace himself to be assaulted by that sound. At least repairing it would be something to do that day. Then he imagined having to carry the fridge downstairs and load it Into the boot of his car and drive all the way to the repairman. He got frustrated again.

He lay on his back resigned to fate that he was going to have a terrible day. He checked the time on his phone. 4:31am. Dammit. He through his phone aside and made one last attempt to go to sleep. Nothing. He went back to thinking of what it could have been that he keeps dreaming about that never let's him sleep. The more he thought, the more frustrated he grew until his chest actually began to hurt with rage.

Click. The sound of the stabilizer coming on broke him out of his thoughts. The ceiling fan began to spin as cool breeze began to blow towards him. He hadn't even noticed that there was no light. He decided to get a drink of water from the fridge before it came on so he could avoid being close to it when it started making that sound. He got off the bed and took a step only to step in something wet. He paused then remembered the water he had spilt. The refrigerator came on and he was greeted with that awful sound as it shook and creaked and struggled to start up.

The refrigerator sparked and the damaged wires which rested in the puddle sent a bolt of electricity through him. He leapt to the side to escape the puddle but had underestimated how large it was. He landed I'm the puddle again but slipped as the water had made the tiled floors slippery. He fell to his side...

He remembered his dream.

His head collided with the edge of his bedside table as he crashed to the ground breathless and confused. He could feel the life drain out of the hole in his head as he struggled to comprehend what was happening. He couldn't.

It happened again. Waking up with a panicked scream had become an uncomfortable regularity and he was getting sick and tired of it...
