Nicehash Hacked!

in #nicehash7 years ago (edited)

Evening folks.

If any of you happy miners in the community out there are wondering why your Nicehash miner isnt working, you may wish to go and have a look at their latest post on Reddit, Facebook or Twitter.

It would appear that at some time over the past few hours, Nicehash has had a security breach where in excess of $50Mil has been stolen from one of their BTC wallets. ( Why does this still happen post Mt Gox??? )

I first noticed that my Nicehash mining software wasn't working as it should this morning, but other miners are reporting that the interruption in service may have started hours before.

Just a word of caution. If you use the same passwords for your email, mining pools or exchanges, you may wish to revise them ASAP. Try use a password generator and a password length of at least 32 characters. Do not use the same password twice..... ever. Oh and dont forget to make note of these obscure new passwords or you will be locked out of your own accounts forever!

With Bitcoin rising so rapidly in price, there is sure to be a huge interest in your wallet by your local neighborhood hackers!

Nicehash has submitted a news release that can be found below or click the link to get it straight from their Twitter feed.

Unfortunately, there has been a security breach involving NiceHash website. We are currently investigating the nature of the incident and, as a result, we are stopping all operations for the next 24 hours.
Importantly, our payment system was compromised and the contents of the NiceHash Bitcoin wallet have been stolen. We are working to verify the precise number of BTC taken.
Clearly, this is a matter of deep concern and we are working hard to rectify the matter in the coming days. In addition to undertaking our own investigation, the incident has been reported to the relevant authorities and law enforcement and we are co-operating with them as a matter of urgency.
We are fully committed to restoring the NiceHash service with the highest security measures at the earliest opportunity.
We would not exist without our devoted buyers and miners all around the globe. We understand that you will have a lot of questions, and we ask for patience and understanding while we investigate the causes and find the appropriate solutions for the future of the service. We will endeavour to update you at regular intervals.
While the full scope of what happened is not yet known, we recommend, as a precaution, that you change your online passwords.
We are truly sorry for any inconvenience that this may have caused and are committing every resource towards solving this issue as soon as possible.
