Midweek Hockey Action with Edmonton Oilers and Dallas Stars

The Dallas Stars (19-8-6) will take on the Edmonton Oilers (17-14-2) on Wednesday in a matchup between Connor McDavid and Jason Robertson. Action is taking place at American Airlines Center in Dallas, with the puck drop set for 9:30 PM ET. Both teams have nearly identical offensive stats (3.58 GF/G for EDM, 3.55 GF/G DAL), but it’s Dallas that has the better defence and overall record.

The Stars are first in the Central division with a +27 goal differential (third best in the league) and look poised to make the postseason. They’re coming off of a 2-1 road win over the Columbus Blue Jackets that saw goaltender Jake Oettinger make 27 saves (9.64 SV%) and Wyatt Johnston open the scoring in the second period. The Stars have been reliant on LW Jason Robertson, who has exploded for 47 points this season, for a bulk of their offensive production.

Edmonton Oilers with a losing streak

The Oilers are fourth in the Pacific division with a modest +4 goal differential. They’re currently on a three-game losing skid with all three losses coming on 4-3 finals. Unfortunately for them, their offseason plan to bring on Jack Campbell as a starting goalie has backfired and the former Leafs netminder has struggled with a 4.03 GAA, .876 SV%. This Monday, the Oilers signed goaltender Stuart Skinner, who has outperformed Campbell, to a three-year extension.
