Cincinnati to the Super Bowl since 1988

This Sunday at 4:25 PM ET, the red-hot Kansas City Chiefs (9-2) head to Cincinnati to take on the 7-4 Bengals. In their last meeting, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs were outduelled by Joe Burrow and the clutch leg of rookie kicker Evan McPherson. An overtime field goal sealed the deal for the Bengals and sent Cincinnati to their first Super Bowl appearance since 1988.

This season, both teams are again looking like championship-calibre clubs. The Chiefs in particular have rattled off five-straight victories and are a virtual lock for the AFC West title. Meanwhile, the Bengals have suffered a series of injuries to key players this season, but have kept pace in the AFC North and look to be getting close to healthy in time for Sunday’s pivotal matchup.

Ja’Marr Chase and Joe Mixon could return

Bengals star wideout Ja’Marr Chase has missed the past four games with a hip injury, while RB Joe Mixon missed last week’s action after suffering a concussion versus the Steelers in Week 11. It appears that rest has done both well, as Chase and Mixon are expected to rejoin Cincinnati’s active roster in time to take on the surging Chiefs.

For the Chiefs, they’re looking to make it six in a row. Not surprisingly, KC has done it with lethal offensive execution. They lead the NFL in points scored per game (29.6) with Mahomes leading all QBs in passing yards (3,585), TDs (9) and rating (158.3). It appears the dynamic pivot is on his way to another MVP season and a deep playoff run, though Sunday’s matchup in Cincinnati will be a measuring stick game for all.

Have a nice day.
