NFL Teams Should Take Running Backs Seriously Again

in #nfl7 years ago

I miss the NFL when the running back was probably the second most important player on the team.

I enjoy watching a running back take the ball, find a hole, and hit it. Take a pitch to the outside and burn the linebacker to the edge or run him over.

Running backs are still pretty important but it's really not the same. They aren't urgently important, not a huge priority. You hear it all the time, it's a passing league nowadays.

I grew up admiring Edgerrin James, Eddie George, Ricky Williams, Brian Westbrook, Jamal Lewis, Ahman Green, Priest Holmes, Jerome Bettis, LaDainian Tomlinson!! Those guys were beasts!! So many many others, obviously, even before my time.

As a kid I didn't want to be the QB when we played football outback. I wanted to be the running back. I wanted to run somebody over or make them miss me. It has always been my favorite position. It felt like football.

I love what Dak and Zeke are doing. When you see a QB and running back mix it up well like they do it really is beautiful. They would be nothing without each other. Together it's a nightmare.

As a defense how can you stop a well balanced offense like that?

I feel the league swaying back to running backs slowly. I hope I am right. I miss that football. Rough and tough. Play action. Beautiful.

Teams for whatever reason don't have the faith to dominate the line and move the ball slowly on the ground. Impose your will, bruise the opponent.

What do you think of the importance of running backs? Do you prefer the passing league?

Zeke Elliot & Laveon Bell are the best in the league! that is all :)

Hahaha yes I believe they are as well actually

The Butler meme hurts @dadpizza but you're so right. I still maintain that Marshawn Lynch was the second most important Seahawk for the Superbowl team. Follow for a follow back!

Those memes were savage!!! Sorry haha I agree with that statement! It is refreshing to see Marshawn return. Yeah sure thing man!

I love the running game. It's amazing to me how they say the running game has been devalued. If you look at the teams that have won the Super Bowl in recent years for the exception of the Patriots, they had a strong running game and played D!

For sure every good team runs the ball pretty well 90 percent of the time.. sorry for the delay I didn't see u even responded! Lol

All I can say to reply to this post is ....ZEKE!!! Just watch him break 2000 rushing yards this year! GO COWBOYS! #whalepower #minnowsupport #DallasCowboys #sports
Peace and happiness from Vietnam!

I love your team Spirit! I can respect that. Zeke I believe is definitely capable, we will see! Peace and love from the USA!! Thanks for commenting!

Howie Roseman went bananas on running backs (Sproles, Ryan Mathews & DeMarco Murray) and quarterbacks (Sanchez, Sam Bradford, Carson Wentz), and skimped on offensive line (Evan Mathis) and wide reciever (Jeremy Maclin) and his team has gotten nothing but worse since those trades.

Kinda telling, no?

Well sheesh I don't know what he was thinking neglecting the foundation of the offense! Demarco's failures in Philly seem to probably compounded by the fact of skimping the o-line and the fact they were tryinging to use him east west when he is north south type of runner.

Funny meme! I played LB, TE and long snapper for school ball. Football is so much fun wish I could play again!

That's cool to hear I played Linebacker as well! I miss it too :/
