The Crossover Night

December is a wonderful month for the 'Christians' and the world at large because it is the month that ushers us into a New Year. There are many activities in December; from Xmas to people traveling to their villages to share nice moments with their families. It is one month that many Nigerians love because of Harmattan (Natural Air-Condition!).

This is one month I love because it connotes new beginning for many people. December is also a busy month for many workers, traders and buyers. Things are both cheap and expensive at the same time. Many shops do discount sales while some inflate prices of goods because they know people are already in the festive mood and it is the best time to exploit them.

I also love December because of Xmas carols, end of the year parties, and shows are often organized by entertainers during this period to relieve their fans and well wishers of some stress. 

The most significant event in December that everybody recognizes is the crossover night! The crossover night is a wonderful Christians programs that prepare the people for the New Year. Crossover night is like every other church service but it's full of praises and prophesies. If you want to have good fun and enjoy yourself before your creator, then do not miss a crossover night for anything! You will dance and dance because everybody is in happy mood and everybody is anticipating the New Year.

Here in Nigeria, people shout HAPPY NEW YEAR immediately it is 12:00 am on 1st of January! This is often followed by another praises, handshakes and greetings. The mood is always an amazing one. Even your supposed enemy is very happy to see the New Year with you. There is also this belief that it is not good to enter the New Year with grudges or hatred. So it is a time for forgiveness.

Another amazing thing about the crossover night is that it is a time for no ‘religion’ in the proper sense of it. That is, people forget what religion they practice (Non-Christians) just to worship God on the crossover night. It is one night that everybody wishes to be in the presence of the Lord to thank Him for keeping them alive all through the year.

Even if I missed many services during the year, the crossover night is something I don’t miss! I must be present at any available church to sing, dance in my own little way and give thanks to the Supreme Being for blessing me and keeping me alive.

We should not forget that some people are already in their New Year, some will enter New Year in an hour time and some in 2, 3, 4 hours from now. So whether you are already in New Year in your country or still waiting like Nigerians, I say HAPPY NEW YEAR to you!
