Let's focus on quality

in #newsteem5 years ago

Probably all users were affected by HF21 and HF22 in some way. It was not possible to add new posts, comments and upvotes. But now it works again, but with some differences.

Everybody knows what has changed with those hard forks, there is no need to repeat it again and again. But how to deal with it as a Steemit user? The 50/50 distribution of prizes means that a lot of people will focus on quality curator work as opposed to selling their votes or automated activities. This can bring a) more curator rewards, b) higher quality content of Steemiters.

But in order to reward your article with a nice juicy upvote, you need to go a little forward to it. If you change your previous behaviour at least a little bit, you increase your chances for it. Don't forget that few whales and dolphins from time to time write a post, where anyone can nominate some nice article, which deserves a decent upvote. This might be also your article!

I don't want to teach anyone what he does wrong and what he should do differently, let's everyone evaluate themselves. Do your own self-reflection. I would like just to share my experiences and thoughts... everyone can use it differently. So let's get into it.

So, what can be improved?

  1. No COPY/PASTE text - try to avoid using even parts of other websites/blogs or Steemit posts as its not the purpose of Steemit. Purpose of Steemit is to create original content, which is worthy for the readers and curators.

  2. Text formatting - format long text to separate paragraphs, insert an image into them. This makes your text easier to read. Use bold and italic fonts, this can also lead the attention of the reader in a better way.

  3. Images - put inside you article at least one picture, because it appears as a thumbnail and it can attract people to read your article. The best thing is to use your own photo/picture, but if not a single one fits your article, you can also use some "free to use" pictures from creative commons license, which can be used for commercial use also, because you monetize it on Steemit. If you never did it, try pixabay.com, pexels.com, commons.wikimedia.org, ccsearch.creativecommons.org or google.com (using Tools-Usage rights-Labeled for reuse). For images that are not yours, it is essential to add a link to their original, some community program like @qurator strictly require them.

  4. Bidbots - right after HF21/22, there are several groups of users who are massively downvoting some articles. Mostly the articles, which have not valued but through the use of bidbots, they have big reward and they appear in the Trending section. Some curation services like @curangel do not vote for posts and users, which used bidbots in the past. That is how they are set up. The other thing on using bidbots is, that ordinary curator will think twice to put an upvote to an article, which already has a reward worth of $50 because the curation reward for this upvote will be minimal. It's simple economical thinking, which some curators use, there is nothing bad about it, it's just about incentives. And the article with good quality, but with a reward value of $ 0.01 is a greater incentive for those economic-thinking curators. Think about this next time, when you will use bidbot.

I will be glad for some of your thoughts and ideas below this article, maybe I missed something or you think some points are irrelevant to you. If the aim of HF21 was to improve the quality of the articles on Steemit, which I believe it will succeed. Do you think so?

Thanks for this great post. I believe that you are totally right to point out the necessity of quality. In addition bid bots like smartsteem are converting into curators and they are looking for good posts. I can tell you one thing, I've tried to find quality posts lately and I would say that 95% of the posts on steem really lack quality. It's difficult for whales to find enough posts to vote on. So quality posts are a must and maybe it's a big chance for people who put a lot of effort in their posts to get bigger rewards.

Best regards,
Achim

Agree with you about the quality to some extent (depends on what you are doing in fact inside the blockchain), but I would say its a "must happen" thing, eventually. About the hardness of finding good content. 100% agree on that. Still premature to say, but I have a feeling the ways of 50/50% are actually making more good content easily noticeable then before. Maybe it's just because now I look harder... not sure. Time will tell.

Yes, you are right. But sometimes, when I find some post which brings me really a lot of value and I think the writer gave it so much time, the article is "unfind" and has just a few cents worth. Those people I would like to find and support somehow.

It's true that not all articles that deserve value get value but I think it's a process where the people on steem begin to agree on what is good content and what is not. Once there is a general agreement about that, the value of good posts will tend to explode I hope ;-)

I hope so too, yes

Howdy dear friend @ritxi.

These tips should be followed by all users. It is precisely the quality of content that will remain attractive to the platform. We must avoid making empty publications that do not contribute positive aspects.

I would also like to add that the exchange of ideas generated in the comments provides great complementary content to the publications. But to get valuable comments we must first create valuable posts, so it's like a loop.

Your friend, Juan.

Hi Juan, thank you for your thoughts. Yes, I agree with that one and I really think we all will improve in some time. Just check my (or yours) first articles and those, we write nowadays. I think there is a progress visible.

You're right.
Perhaps it is the product of a process of growth and maturity as writers of a crypto community.

Hello my dear @ritxi, thanks for sharing.

It's simple economical thinking, which some curators use, there is nothing bad about it, it's just about incentives.

Another article about HF, also interesting this approach. That of economic thought is very normal in this platform, but I think that we must evolve to the social and the social will take you to the economic, that is, we must vote and vote for the publications that deserve our vote not thinking about the balance that can be obtained , because that selfless action can create a mutual commitment and end up benefiting all the parties involved.

Thanks friend.
@fucho80

Thank you for your reaction, yes I agree on that, but it will take some time for many. But I hope its the future.

Thanks for this beautiful post. Cheers! #projecthope

Thank you for your support!

In this new steem way of thinking you write for almost nothing and a few penny at most. ;)

True, but if you improve the quality of your posts, there is a slight chance to be more visible, to reach some unexpectable upvotes.

Quality doesn't matter much @ritxi

It's all about 'who you know and who does know you'

This post has received a 3.13 % upvote from @drotto thanks to: @sbi-booster.

I liked the tip about the images. Didn't know about that one to be honest. Nice to have, and will try to use it more often. Thanks.

I don't think much about the quality changed... what changed was the amount of people thinking bid bots had they game settled. And now things change... and they have to adapt. They will try to come up with alternatives and ways they can make their SP profitable. That's the nature of blockchain economics and to not think about them, its the same as being an idiot (And not the one that has ideas)!

For me, the quality will only change if almost everyone (UI's) up their posting quality tools. I mean, many people don't know about Markdown or HTML, and they need to make a great post that looks nice and well structured... I know there are lots of professional tools out there with templates and other "built-in" things that make this easier for the user... so, why no one's trying to show to leverage those things? Feels almost like (to be honest) that some people that know very well how to do it, don't want to share the info, for sake of loosing their "advantage" in quality against others.

I for once, am not a great writer, and I mainly use the UI to comment and share my view, so presentation is not a big must. But it would help, I tend to agree. Maybe someone can change my mind.

Yes, if that will improve, there will be more quality. Me myself started to use some useful upfronts like steempeak, which helps me in some ways or the other. I endorse everyone to try those, not to focus just on steemit.com

I don't know how many UI's I have tried... but once you pass the 10th... you kind get the point I was trying to make.

But yes agree SteemPeak as a really high standard when compared with all the others.
