One of the problems is, steemit Inc are a private company, with what's supposed to be, a flag ship product...steemit.com. so it's up to them to promote steemit. The may have stopped selling steem in the short term but their downward pressure has not helped.

Steem on the other hand is different. I'm sure there are many people willing to promote steem and there are a few things going on with the community to aid this.
