Obama, Japan’s Abe decry ‘horrors of war’ at Pearl Harbor

PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii — The leaders of Japan and the United States sought to remind the world that even the most bitter enemies can become allies, during a historic pilgrimage to the hallowed waters of Pearl Harbor.
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe did not apologize, but conceded Japan “must never repeat the horrors of war again.”
Seventy-five years after Japan’s surprise attack, Abe and President Barack Obama peered down Tuesday at the rusting wreckage of the USS Arizona, clearly visible in the tranquil, teal water. In a show of respect for the war dead, Obama and Abe dropped purple petals into the water and stood in silence.

Mall mayhem: Fights break out across the US

Massive brawls and food-court fights played out at more than a dozen malls across the country in what proved to be a chaotic day after Christmas.
Some of the mayhem was captured on social media. The chaos prevented some shoppers from grabbing clothes off clearance racks and returning gifts.
The mall incidents, which ranged from minor melees to mass evacuations, occurred from Colorado to Tennessee and Texas to New Jersey.
Police in some cities are investigating the role social media may have played in organizing the disturbances. The motive behind the mall brawls is not yet known.
Here's what happened at nine of those malls.

Qualcomm Faces $853 Million Fine From South Korea Over Alleged Antitrust Violations

SEOUL—A South Korean regulator said it would fine Qualcomm Inc. about $853 million for alleged antitrust violations, the highest such penalty handed to an individual company here, as the U.S. chip maker faces global scrutiny over its patent-licensing business.
After a three-year investigation, the Korea Fair Trade Commission said on Wednesday that Qualcomm breached antitrust law by limiting competing chip makers’ access to its patents. The company also forced mobile-phone manufacturers into unfair license agreements by refusing to supply crucial phone chips to those that disagreed with its terms, the regulator said.

LG's new levitating speaker promises 10 hours of floating funk

Sure, we might be facing down a potential nuclear war, burning fossil fuels for fun, and still not have our own robot butlers, but the last few years have at least brought us something undeniably futuristic: levitating speakers. LG is the latest manufacturer to add to this range, showing off a new Bluetooth device ahead of CES next month
Other levitating speakers have looked like UFOs, evil soccer balls, or clouds. LG's latest looks more like the kind of device you might find in a hospital, with a functional off-white color scheme, a reassuringly chunky base unit, and a series of control options on the speaker itself. Its levitation is achieved through the use of electromagnets, rather than witchcraft, powerful units that support an omnidirectional speaker that LG says features Dual Passive Radiator technology for "flush mid-range tones and crisp highs."

Dash cam footage shows Tesla Autopilot predict (and avoid) a freeway crash

Finally: Footage of a self-driving car, where it actually works. Spectacularly, in fact!
Video taken from the dash cam of a Tesla Model X in the Netherlands shows a car crash that happens on the freeway — and how Tesla's Autopilot feature stops the car quickly to avoid a collision.
The amazing part is the car predicted that the crash was about to occur ... and slowed down just before the collision.

Facebook's Safety Check in Bangkok misled users with news from 2015

clik the images to read the article

Facebook got fooled by its own algorithm. Today, the social network activated its Safety Check feature but falsely suggested that there was an explosion in Bangkok, Thailand.
Users in the country saw an alert to mark themselves safe, but saw little details about when or where in Bangkok the “explosion” occurred. Safety Check came on at around 9PM local time and was deactivated about an hour later. News that “reported” the explosion linked back to an outdated story on Bangkok Informer about the 2015 Erawan Shrine bombing.

Facebook and the rest of the gang can identify and hide your posts for ungood speech, but can't let the cops know when some shitbirds plan a riot though the site

What part of Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances....are you finding hard to understand?

I read this pretty clear-"people peaceably to assemble," fights and theft are not peaceful assembly, never were.

anyway, Facebook and gang are private companies and can shut down any user they like (terms and conditions)

It's just bullshit when they shut down patriots, and allow thugs to use their sites as an organizing platform

Do you like censorship or do you complain about censorship on Steemit?
How 'bout that White Nationalist march in Montana?

would you sue the post office if they used he mail?
would you sue the phone company if they use the telephones?
Who would you sue if they used Radio?
Would you sue the Cable company if they used the internet?...oh wait..they did. Why are you singling out social media?

did the white nationalists start fights where they marched to? did they burn a cross on someone else's property?

"people peaceably to assemble,"

I do complain about censorship on Steemit, Steemit is structured to be a community driven media; Facebook et al are privately owned companies that tell you in their TOS that they will censor you if they get butthurt from your speech

If the TOS of Steemit changes to say "no porn", then I would have no business complaining if someone where to get censored from publishing porn

If I owned the mall in which a riot had occurred, and that riot was organized on Facebook, I would damn sure sue the platform on which that riot was organized in advance, especially when that platform has proven to have the ability to monitor and approve of it's use
