Chicago Thugs Targeting Amazon Delivery Drivers: "Take What You Want, Just Let Me Go"

Chicago's rash of violence, which resulted in over 800 homicides in 2016, a 20-year record high, has seemly focused its sites on a new type of victim, Amazon delivery drivers. Accorded to a CBS affiliate, just last night another armed robbery occurred in Chicago's violent South Side neighborhood as two masked gunmen held up a driver and stole several packages. According to CBS this was only 1 of at least 12 similar incidents over the past month.

FL Firefighter Who Answered Door With Gun Cleared Under ‘Stand Your Ground’ Law

In March of last year, Miami-Dade Fire Captain Nick Marian of Miami Shores, Florida, answered a knock at his door and the ringing of his doorbell. He lives in a rough part of town, and came to the door with a shotgun in hand. Police say they saw him pick up a shotgun from his couch and answer the door.
Prosecutors contended that he pointed the shotgun at the police officers for “more than a second” and that he knew that it was police officers at his door. His defense was that he had the right to protect himself, his actions were reasonable and prudent, and he had immunity under Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law. Captain Marian’s arguments won the day.

Why Are Wal-Mart, Boeing, & Lowe's Laying Off Workers If The U.S. Economy Is In Such Great Shape?

The stock market has been on quite a roll in recent weeks, but signs of trouble continue to plague the real economy. Earlier this week, I talked about the “retail apocalypse” that is sweeping America. Major retail chains such as Sears and Macy’s are closing stores and laying off workers, but I didn’t think that Wal-Mart would be feeling the pain as well. Unfortunately, that is precisely what is happening. USA Today is reporting that approximately 1,000 jobs will be cut at Wal-Mart’s corporate headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas by the end of this month…

Walmart’s plan to lay off of hundreds of employees is the latest ripple in a wave of job cuts and store closures that are roiling the retail industry.

The world’s largest retailer is cutting roughly 1,000 jobs at its corporate headquarters in Bentonville, Ark., later this month, according to a person familiar with the matter who was not authorized to speak about it.

"Fake News" Facebook Lands On List Of "America's Most Hated Companies"

Facebook just can't seem to catch a break lately. From questionable privacy policies and mass data collection of its users to its handling of the so-called "Fake News" epidemic (see "George Soros Is Funding Facebook's "Third-Party Fact Checking" Organization Targeting 'Fake News'"), Mark Zuckerberg is pissing off a lot of people these days. Unfortunately, when your entire business model is based on "friending" others, the alienation of various groups has caused enough people to "dislike" Facebook that the company has landed itself on 24/7 Wall Street's list of "America's Most Hated Companies."

Amazon to add 100,000 full-time U.S. jobs in next 18 months, growing domestic workforce 55 percent

Amazon just made a big statement about its continued growth aspirations, announcing that it plans to add another 100,000 full-time jobs in the U.S. over the next 18 months, an increase of more than 55 percent in its domestic workforce.
The growth would push Amazon’s U.S. workforce to more than 280,000 people by mid 2018. Amazon said in an announcement that the jobs will be available to people “all across the country and with all types of experience, education and skill levels—from engineers and software developers to those seeking entry-level positions and on-the-job training.”

Amazon is hiring. It’s competitors are firing. What does THAT tell us?

General Mattis Confirmed as Defense Secretary

Retired Marine Gen. James Mattis on Thursday cruised through his confirmation hearing despite senators’ attempts to draw him out in areas where he might disagree with President-elect Donald Trump.
The Senate Armed Services Committee afterward easily passed a waiver exempting Mattis from a law that requires Defense secretaries to be retired from military service for at least seven years.
The vote was 24-3, with Democratic Sens. Elizabeth Warren (Mass.), Kirsten Gillibrand (N.Y.), and Richard Blumenthal (Conn.), a Marine veteran, voting in the opposition.
