An army helicopter landed at Rutendo Hall in Mufakose, Harare in the Afternoon yesterday 31 August 2017, word on the streets can reveal. Rutendo Hall is a popular community centre in the high density suburb of Mufakose in Harare.

This year, Rutendo Hall is the Venue of community outreach screenings that are running as part of the International Images Film Festival for women (IIFF). The film screenings at Rutendo hall started on the 30th of August 2017 and will end today, Friday the 1st of September. All film screenings which are free of charge, start at 12pm and end at 5pm. The films cater for all age groups including animation for kids.

Running under the theme “Of Women, By Women, For the People” IIFF is bringing cinematic experiences to communities that have no access to cinema.

“IIFF is doing a good job. This is a wonderful opportunity to engage and entertain communities especially the kids and youth who are on holiday. Film opens up their minds and increases their knowledge about the world around them.” Said Agatha Chiseya, a creative writer and resident of Mufakose.

As the Harare Agricultural Show was closing on Saturday 26 August 2017, The International Images Film was opening with the screening of the film In my Fathers Village. In My Fathers Village is a film that was produced by Veteran Filmmaker and acclaimed author Tsitsi Dangarembga and it features actors from Mufakose Film Society.
In a community that has limited entertainment activities, the film screenings offer a fresh and exciting afternoon spectacle in the high density suburb. The Acting Ambassador for Canada graced yesterday’s screenings. In the post screening discussions, some audience members won hampers courtesy of IIFF and their Partners.

It was during the first screening break that an army helicopter landed at Rutendo hall. Young audiences were particularly thrilled to see a helicopter up close and personal right there in their playground. The helicopter passengers were outreach officials from the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority who were distributing fliers for the Harare International Carnival which kicks of today.
