It's kinda disappointing that the data is closed, well, at least we have NASA decided to open their data to people on PubSpace.

As I know, Europe is also planning to open all the results of European research, carried out at public expense till year 2020. (it's a project of Innovation Principle)
They will be obliged to give a free access for everybody, so the situation is probably going to be better :)
