Incredible 110 million-year-old 'four-legged tank' dinosaur fossil that's so well preserved it looks like a STATUE

in #news7 years ago

A fossil so well preserved that it looks like a statue is being unveiled today at a museum in Canada.

The 110 million-year-old nodosaur fossil, dubbed the 'four legged tank' was discovered by a miner in a find so rare, it's being described as like winning the lottery'.

I know this isn't a normal post of mine but I though this was so cool I had to share it with everyone. I was a big fan of Dinosaurs when I was a kid and knew the names of all the different ones. This just blows my mind how you could find one so preserved like that it had to be because of a volcano or something similar where the natural decay process was stopped.

that is a dragon.

Per Wikipedia "The taxon Dinosauria was formally named in 1842 by paleontologist Sir Richard Owen". Prior to the word dinosaur people used the word dragon, as in dragon slayer.

I hope they won't get any dna, because they will try and create a living one. These creatures are best left in history books.

Looks like I'll have to make another trip to the a Royal Tyrrell Museum. This would be incredible to see.

110 million is a lie.

yes it's a "rough" estimate based on carbon in bones and compared to today's levels. There's no actually way to tell how old they are.

Radio carbon dating only good up to 50,000 years. Potassium argon dating is used for extended ages. Most dating methods are guess work anyway.

thanks for the post

Incredibly well preserved. Thanks for sharing this. Wow.
