While we certainly can hope that others become rational, it is not germaine to our own conduct of our affairs. We simply don't have the authority to order them to be rational, and therefore aren't responsible for their actions.

We are responsible for our actions, and have complete authority over them. That's really all we have: authority over ourselves.
