Thats the research paper , what it says , tanins , found in wood bark and many plants contain a phenol - quinone system that swaps oxygen atoms on a ring of carbons reversably and instantaneously , so the researchers put the mechanism in some conducting goo (polypyrrole) and coated it (soaked) it in charcoal - carbonised wood. the result when you add some percholic acid and an anode , is a rechargable battery that is as good or better than Lithium Ion and way less heavy , yielding lightweight fast recharging green no-toxic batteries ideal for vehicle and portable applications , the did moan that the goo was a bit of a spoilsport ( coulombic performance) but thats actually a minor hitch and experimentation in creating better goo (polypyrolle is a conducting polymer) is actually fairly trivial.

So super lightweight ,high capacity ,ultra cheap fast recharge battery tech is here they also gloat several times in the paper that "overunity" ie more out than you put in was observed during cycling and this is correct and always observed on acidic electrolytes.

PS The paper says the use of carbonised wood (charcoal) proves to be a most excellent electrode material so high lifespan and high cycling capabilities were observed
