Steem Ocean Inspires @adamkokesh To Self-Upvote Less & to Distribute His 0.5 Million STEEM Delegation More Widely! | Steem Ocean

in #news6 years ago (edited)

Part of the purpose of the stats at Steem Ocean is to help guide us towards making decisions that are supportive of the community and therefore also supportive of creating a future for the platform that is attractive to new users and that ends any perception that Steem/Steemit is only of any use to those who already have money (Proof of Wallet), rather than truly being a space that measures 'Proof of Brain'. This week I had a nice surprise when @adamkokesh took note that he was in the #2 position across Steem for Self Upvoting and publicly stated his new policy for voting on Steem that will see him deliberately supporting other users more.

As of today, Adam still appears in position 2 of the top 10 self upvoters, behind @haejin:

Since @jamesc delegated a large amount of Steem to Adam he has mostly been using it to upvote himself which has caused him to appear in the #2 spot. Obviously it's up to him what he uses it for and my intention here and with Steem Ocean in general is not to police anyone or judge people's decisions, I am just intending to act as a guide to show us how others see us and to identify situation where the PR of Steem or of the people in question may be being harmed by their activity.

Ultimately, my aim is to help make Steem the best it can be.

I was therefore very happy to receive adam's reply to me pointing him to the data from Steem Ocean in which he laid out a detailed plan to change his voting behaviour on steemit to be more supportive of the community:

With some careful thought and input from you and others, this is the formula we're going to be trying for the next week and if it works, make a post about it. Please let me know what you think!

ADAM VS THE MAN - Steemit & Production Protocol

7 days a week
@adamkokesh
1 interview of a specific person from an event
1 man-on-the-street video
1 podcast video (podcast will be just 1/week but very long, up to three hours, covering all the news of the week and answering email questions)
1 audio podcast production/forgotten freedom fighter post/written blog post/special announcement/old video when relevant to the current conversation/special event video
We will limit to four posts per day on the @adamkokesh Steemit account.

@adamkokesh-pics
up to 2 original memes
up to 2 candid photos
These will each get a 5% upvote and one will get RSed every day until that channel has built up some following and then scale back to once every few days.

Six full upvotes minimum per day to the rest of the community (we will do as many as we can so long as our voting power stays up above the 80% threshold), they will be distributed as follows:
1 for comments - we will try to upvote as many as 100 comments/per day at 1-3% strength until it adds up to a 100% upvote
1 in 10% upvotes for good content across the platform
4 (minimum) in full upvotes and RSs for four best posts of the day and introduction posts

I am pretty sure that this change in direction for Adam will greatly help his ability to connect with others and gain their respect/trust as he aims for the heady heights of becoming president of the United States of America Corporation ;)

Maybe this will set a precedent for other huge self upvoters to be inspired by?

Wishing you well,

Done, thanks.

LOL! 🤪😂

That's great to hear. @adamkokesh, you nailed the 'U' in JJDIDTIEBUCKLE (Mnemonic device for the Marine Corps Leadership traits for the uninitiated. U is unselfishness) and really appreciate showing that kind of leadership.

Hopefully, users like Haejin and others with high self vote ratio will take note. Promoting a culture of unselfishness is how we really build communities!

Thanks for sharing, @ura-soul! You are definately a witness who deserves the votes. Appreciate ya!

Thanks for your kind words. I aim to follow everyone to votes for me as a witness, so I am now following you! (But not in a creepy way!) ;)

these type of steps will definitely help steemit grow
only self voting means, newbies will not be motivated enough as they dont get upvotes on their comments as that is the only way they earn at start

I regularly check your steem ocean tool to see how I'm doing. Personally, though I do not have a strong voting power but I always limit my self votes to 8-15%. It's up to the user to choose as he/she uses his/her stake in the community. I just know that if everyone decides to be more selfish with their stake, then we wont have a community here at the end of the day. Thank you @ura-soul for the Steem ocean tool, it's like our own mirror here on the Steemit platform.

Exactly, yes - there's nothing wrong with self voting - but balance is needed. You are welcome!

From the analysis shown, one can make a statistical inference of what to expect if a change occurs in the positive. I'm really glad about @adamkokesh's response, I believe that a lot of others will follow suit.
Thank you so much @ura-soul for this valuable information

Props to Adam for taking your comment on board and drastically changing his upvoting habits. Currently, there is no incentive for high SP users to NOT upvote their own content. So mad props for this.

The incentive can come from community awareness and 'negative PR' - so it is essential we have a way of monitoring the situation, which was part of the intention of Steem Ocean. I will be doing the same for downvote monitoring soon too, once I get time to code it.

Really good effort, both in means and ends! I note adam used the word 'careful' in his reply, which I guess means calmed, reasoned, polite arguments rather than rage.

It's also testimony to the importance of 'behind the scenes work and engagement', the stuff you don't see!

As I understand it though, the problems with some of the others at the top of that self-vote list is that they don't listen to reason and we don't eve know who they are, possibly why 'we've' descending into donkey-flagging and 'questing'.

Still, good effort, I just gave you a witness vote. Cheers!

Thankyou! Oh absolutely, Adam is someone who intends to act well in the community in general, from what I can see - whereas others don't share that attitude and no doubt some are actually quite the opposite. In those cases the only tool the community has is downvoting, but downvoting someone who has vast wealth is a potentially dangerous exercise.

Say no more - I'm well aware of the dangers. I have on my to do list to set up a second account (linked to a different exchange to this one) to flag from. Rather than delegate from here.

While I believe in nonymity, in this case its too risky.

I personally have no problem with him up voting himself to that amount of money if he's using it towards funding his presidential campaign in 2020.

Fair enough, as I said I am not intending to police anyone here - the issue I see is not so much to do with any one persons using self upvotes.. I use self upvotes too. The issue is more about the perception that external observers have about Steemit that may put them off from using Steem due to them thinking that Steem is some kind of complicated scam.

That’s some really great news with the bigger guys providing a little more distrabution and smaller accounts getting access to the reward pool will hopefully have a trickle down effect and help grow more accounts who in turn help spread the rewards even further! Decentralized platforms aren’t meant to concentrate the wealth we already have those kinds of systems in place let’s start changing that mindset and thanks to whales 🐳 who are putting self interest aside for the greater good
