Britain must take responsibility for the Palestinian issue

JERUSALEM - Britain should work proactively to improve its policies and recognize the Palestinian state. The pledge was generally seen as one of the major Palestinian cleansing catalysts in 1948 and the escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

England, said Majdalani, has a double responsibility. First, to ensure that the Balfour Declaration is implemented, and secondly, to recognize the Palestinian State as a stepping-stone to achieving an internationally supported two-state solution.

On its part, Hall emphasized the country's support for a two-state solution in accordance with the resolution of international legitimacy. "We must work together to stabilize the situation in the region and to support international peace efforts," Hall said.

Last December, Britain announced its rejection of US President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. London even voted for a UN resolution condemning the decision at the General Assembly session on 21 December.

On Sunday, the Palestinian Authority (PA) also called for EU (EU) support in recognizing the Palestinian State with occupied East Jerusalem as its capital.
