Volvo Discontinues The Manufacture Of Cars With Only Internal Combustion Engines.
From 2019, Volvo Cars will only manufacture cars with an electric motor, according to a press release.
The effort means that all new cars will be either pure electric cars, hybrid hybrids or mild hybrids.
"This announcement means that we will no longer manufacture cars driven by internal combustion engines," says Håkan Samuelsson, President and CEO.
Volvo has previously stated that the goal is to sell a total of one million electric vehicles until 2025.
As part of the venture, the company will launch five pure electric cars between 2019 and 2021. Three of them will be Volvo models and the other two electric cars from Polestar, the Volvo Cars performance brand.
"This is about the customer. People increasingly demand electric cars, and we want to meet our customers' current and future needs, "says Håkan Samuelsson.
Volvo Cars has been owned by Chinese Geely since 2010. Between 1999 and 2010, the brand was owned by American Ford, and previously belonged to Volvo Cars in the Volvo Group.
I kindve love volvo for doing this but also hate it since I have a volvo twin turbo and the thing is a beast, PEDAL TO THE METAL, but then again we should take care of our planet. Hopefully it doesnt jack up the price for the already over priced vovlo parts..

why am I not surprised -- these Swedish wankers are at it again: not only are they hell-bent on becoming the first cashless society in the world, they also have a "feminist party" (while, of course, wearing burkas :) on a state visit to Iran), and now they join in on the global "demonisation programme" of internal combustion engines -- all the while flying to Thailand and Spain twice a year. Makes the usual amount of sense in that klimatsmart country.
"Made by Sweden", indeed (though Chinese-owned, but who is really counting)...
This is how competent and "adorable" :) they are since at least 1628 when this ridiculous country sank the SS "Gustav Vasa" on a calm summer day within Stockholm harbour :P
