EU citizens residing in the United Kingdom will be able, after Brexit, to apply for a residence permit in "three simple steps". This is what the British government plan promises . EU citizens and members of their families - who are currently receiving an email with the plan from the UK Interior Ministry - will be able to formalize their post-Brexit resident status from March 30, 2019 until June 30, 2021.

Anyone who has lived in the United Kingdom for at least five years may apply for a residence permit. Applicants will have to prove their identity, domicile and declare that they have not suffered "serious criminal convictions", explained the Minister of Immigration, Caroline Nokes.

"It is an important step - said the minister - that will make it easier for EU citizens to obtain the status they need to continue living and working here". The question of the fate of over three million EU citizens living in the UK has been one of the most debated issues in the Brexit area. Nokes hoped that the EU will soon provide details on how it intends to manage the status of UK citizens residing and working in other EU countries.
