During a Soviet expedition in Antarctica, he became severely ill with appendicitis; As the nearest residential area was more than 1000 km, and no plane could take off due to adverse weather conditions, Rogozov had no choice: he had to work alone or he would die.
He was, of course, the only doctor in the expedition, and he practiced himself after practicing local anesthesia at his abdomen using procaina: a meteorologist and a driver passed the instruments.
Really bizarre and at the same time scary; But also had to choose between life or death!
