According to a research conducted by a geneticist from Oxford, Bryan Sykes, a large percentage of people living in the territories of the former Mongol empire might be related to Genghis Khan , the mighty leader.
It is estimated that in only Mongolia, people related to him can be 200,000 (the total population is 2 million). In total there could be 16 million.
Sykes found the presence of a Y chromosome practically equal to 8% of the male populations of these territories; "This is unusual and suggests that everyone could descend from a man who lived in the recent past. Seeing that only minor changes took place, it was possible to estimate the time at which this common ancestor lived; And this period is between the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, "said Sykes.
Genghis Khan had an incredibly large harem, in his life he had a large number of wives and concubines, and so did his children in turn. This would explain the incredible spread of its genome in the population.
