Two individuals from the House Intelligence Committee are feeding CNN with fake news about Wikileaks.

There are two members of the House Intelligence Committee who are leaking false information to CNN and MSNBC (relying on the fact that neither institution actually practices journalism) in order to slander the organisation Wikileaks.

Glenn Greenwald of The Intercept is leading calls for CNN to reveal their anonymous source for the easily-disprovable story claiming that the Trump team were sent the Podesta emails before they were publicly dropped. They later retracted the story when it was pointed out that Wikileaks published the emails four days before the exchange took place.

Although the sources who peddled lies to several outlets were anonymous, Greenwald claims there is good reason to believe that they both sit on the House Intelligence Committee, or at least work for someone who sits on the Committee.

The idea that members of Congress and large media outlets are feeding off of each other in order to push a certain narrative in spite of a total absence of evidence is insidious but hardly surprisingly. This is just the latest example of the mainstream media 'manufacturing consent' for the actions of the US Intelligence Community.

In this case, the end result will not be the invasion of Iraq nor the public support for torture in Guantanamo; it will instead be the proscription of the organisation Wikileaks, which will no doubt eventually be registered as a 'foreign agent' similar to RT and Sputnik a few weeks back.

Having such powers to stifle and surveil Wikileaks would represent a huge monkey off the backs of the CIA, NSA and the Pentagon. It seems CNN are more than happy to lend them a helping hand.
