Clashes occur across Palestine this weekend in response to Donald Trump's decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel

Donald Trump's decision to violate international law and recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel has been denounced by every other government across the world (apart from Israel, obviously). However, the response was naturally most passionate amongst Palestinians, who took the streets in huge numbers over the last few days to voice their outrage.

According to the Guardian:

Two Palestinians have been shot dead in Gaza by the Israeli army, the first people killed in clashes that began after Donald Trump recognised Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

Palestinian protesters clashed with Israeli troops across the West Bank as worshippers throughout the Muslim world took to the streets after the weekly Friday midday prayers to vent their fury at Trump’s decision. A third man was in a critical condition after being shot in the head during the clashes.

Personally, I believe the move serves no purpose whatsoever in inducing enduring peace in the region. According to the Oslo Accord, Jerusalem is a split territory, with the East side under the control of the Palestinian Authority. The US moving their embassy to Jerusalem gives the impression that Israel are the legitimate owners of the entirety of the Holy City, which contravenes the Oslo Peace Accord.

Violent displays of course aren't acceptable. However, it's difficult to judge the Palestinians considering how their rights and territory are constantly being stripped away without their consent. Without democratic channels, frustrations are always communicated through violence.
