Bahrain get their weapons after Trump and Tillerson torpedo Obama's basic humanitarian restrictions

in #news7 years ago

Say what you want about Obama's militaristic over-enthusiasm when it came to the Middle-East, at least Trump's predecessor at least attempted to give the impression that he harboured even the slightest humanitarian concern when drowning the region in US-built weapons.

For better or worse, the Trump administration has no such zest for PR. A good example of this is the recent gigantic arms sale to Bahrain; Obama was happy to hand over the 19 fighter jets to Bahrain - arguably the most tyrannical regime in the Middle-East, who effectively leapfrogged the Arab Spring movement through mass torture - on the condition that they at least ostensibly show a decrease in arbitrary detentions and sectarian apartheid.

Rex Tillerson announced without a hint of shame back in May that the conditions of the sale would be withheld, and sure enough, the authoritarian government of Bahrain described as 'dismal' by Human Rights Watch have just received $6 billion worth of the most advanced killing machines on the planet.

Remember that Bahrain are involved in the Saudi invasion of Yemen, so it's quite likely the weapons below will be used to inflict further damage on the innocent people enduring the Saudi-US bombardment.

Sort:

Given the current situation vis a vis the ME war, presently ongoing from N. Africa to Afghanistan, with the KSA suddenly purging and transferring power to Prince Salman, threatening airstrikes in Lebanon, and against Iran, what else would you expect?

Bahrain is right next to Qatar, and despite one of the largest US military bases in the world being there, Qatar is strongly being associated with Iran. Just today The Intercept ran a story that al Otaibi , a close associate of MBZ in the UAE, has been working on a plan to destabilize the economy of Qatar, and KSA is accusing Iran of inciting Houthi rebels in Yemen into firing a ballistic missile at Riyadh.

This is pretty much what one would expect from the US under these circumstances.

Great research BTW!

I trust Trump. What is happening in the Middle East will lead to lasting peace and stability. The arrest of the corrupt Saudi Prince was the first step. Destroying ISIS was another step. Lebanon's leader to resign was yet another step.

Wait and see.
