The first electric aircrafts of a Boeing startup are approaching
Zunum Aero, a startup from Boeing and JetBlue, revealed this week that they have sold the first 100 electric aircraft. This deal can herald a new era for air traffic. Not only will aviation become cheaper and greener, the way we fly will also change.
Over the last decades, large airlines have been deploying massively at large airports. As a result, smaller, regional airports remained in the cold. But that is what Zunum Aero wants to change, with electric aircraft.
Zunum Aero is a startup funded by JetBlue Technology Ventures and Boeing Horizon X venture capital. The goal is to make electric aircraft that make aviation greener, faster and easier to use.
The startup announced that they have sold 100 aircraft to JetSuite, a US airline that mainly flies to regional airports. Delivery is expected in 2022.
Initially, Zunum Aero will produce a hybrid aircraft and then produce fully electric aircraft with improved battery technology.
These aircraft can carry up to 12 passengers and fly up to 1,600 kilometers at a maximum speed of about 550 kilometers per hour. This makes these aircraft ideal for smaller, regional airports.
- Currently, almost all air traffic is concentrated via large national airports where people have to drive their car before driving for a long time. With the arrival of electric aircraft this can change back in the coming years / decades.
