"In Venezuela everyone is dying of hunger": the story of a Venezuelan who fled to Colombia

Carmen Puentes arrived a few days ago with her family to the department of Atlantico in Colombia, with pots, some clothes and a few mattresses they spend the night in the front yards of the houses.

"Horrible, horrible, that's a disaster. All Venezuelans are going through need. (...) There everyone is dying of hunger thanks to that president, "he told Caracol Noticias tearfully.

The visibly thin woman assured that she prefers not to have a roof but that her children have something to carry to the stomach.

Puentes' mother, an elderly woman in her 70s, said that children die of hunger in Venezuela and adults because of lack of medical attention or medicines.

The residents of the Villa Angelita neighborhood have not hesitated to reach out and for now support them with breakfast, lunch or lend them bathrooms to relieve themselves.

According to the media, the situation is repeated in the transport terminal where more than 300 Venezuelans have settled.
