We all know about ecological problems and deforestation that harms our planet greatly. While some people are busy with destroying and eliminating, the others try to create something really useful. Just like this very genius!

He has defeated deserts and proved that green plants CAN live even in hot sands! Now there are no borders for greenery!

The Dutch inventor Peter Hoff in the past was engaged in the export of flowers. Spending whole days among the plants, he noticed how in the evenings the condensate accumulates  on the lilies, which is then absorbed by the leaves. 

These observations formed the basis for a unique business idea and prompted Hoff to create a device that allows to have plants in places with an unfavorable climate. Having sold flower business, the entrepreneur invested about $ 7 million in new technology.

The company AquaPro is the manufacturer of the experimental device Groasis Waterboxx, which accumulates water and protects the germ or seedling from the damaging environmental factors.

Tests conducted in the Sahara Desert showed that of the 100 trees planted using the new Groasis growing technology, 88 trees survive! In similar climatic conditions, without the use of Groasis plant growing technology, only about 10% of plants survive - even under the condition of daily watering!

TECHNOLOGY FOR GROWING PLANTS

Waterboxx is a polypropylene container, the size of a laundry basket that has a through hole in the form of a pipe tapering upwards through which a seedling breaks through; while the roots of the plant are in the ground. 

During planting, 15 liters of water are poured into the container. After that, the plant does not need watering for 3-4 months: Waterboxx replenishes its water supply independently, collecting moisture particles from the air. 

At night, the lid of the container cools faster than air. A condensate forms on the plastic surface, which then drains to the center and flows through thin tubes into the reservoir. The shape of the cover also allows collecting rainwater - 75 mm of precipitation a year is enough to ensure that the water reserves inside the container never run out. A special valve protects the water inside the device from evaporation.

In the daytime, the water that has cooled down during the night makes it possible to keep the temperature inside the pipe cooler than the surrounding temperature, preventing the plant from dying from the heat. 

The device for growing plants stabilizes the temperature of the soil around the seedling, as well as protects the plant from the wind and moistens the soil around it. A small amount of water (about 50 ml per day) seeps into the earth through a wick inserted into a small hole in the bottom of the container. This amount is not enough for the optimal development of the plant, which stimulates root growth in depth. 

When the roots begin to reach the more humid layers of the soil, the plant enters a phase of rapid growth. This means that now it is able to survive without the help of adaptation. Waterboxx can be removed and used to plant a new plant.

Experiments with Groasis have already been carried out in different regions where the problem of drought is acute or emerging - Morocco, Kenya, Spain and the USA.

So far, the device for growing plants Waterboxx is produced only in Holland. AquaPro sells devices in batches of 10 pieces for $ 275. 

However, Peter Hoff is ready to establish a localized production at more affordable prices in any place where the mass use of Waterboxx will begin.
