LP Gas 'Hub' Mongla
Natural Gas The gas crisis is intense. The government has stopped the connection of new gas connections for a long time. Liquidated natural gas (LNG) is coming to meet the demand for gas in the industrial sector. On the other hand, the use of liquid petroleum gas (LPG) is becoming popular in the house.
With the increase in demand, about 20 companies have been added to import LP gas. Lot of LP gas is imported with Mongla port in Bagerhat. Bashundhara, Jamuna, Navana, Orion, Omera, army welfare and huge gas factories or terminals of gas have been developed to buy their own premises for lease and outside of the port. The companies arranged to anchor the ship loaded LP gas by landing stations in the river's river. LP gas is being stored in the terminal tank through the pipeline from the ship. Then it is going to cylinders in different parts of the country. Petromax, Delta and Mir LPG are coming to production soon. Outside of Mongla, there are LPG terminals of several companies including Total Gas, BM, and Chittagong.
Talking to the concerned people of the sector, about 15 companies, including Bashundhara, Omera, Jamuna and Lafs Gas, are currently distributing 50 thousand metric tonnes of LP gas of around Tk 450 million in the month. Of these, 81 percent households, 14 percent in small medium industries, 1 percent in big industries, 1 percent in transport and 3 percent of LPG gas in other sectors are being used. Customers can buy 12 kg LP gas cylinder 1000-1100 and 45 kg cylinder at Tk 3200-3600.
Mongla port officials said the use of ports increased due to the LP gas terminal. In 2016-17, import of 3 lakh metric tonnes of LPG was imported from Mongla port. In the previous fiscal year, 1 lakh 64 thousand metric tons were imported. However, in the year 2004-05 fiscal, the amount of LP gas import was only 26 thousand metric tons. The port authority has allocated 20 plots for the construction of the port.
When asked about the Mongla Port Authority's Chairman Commodore AKM Faruk Hasan , who told the first light on Wednesday , "For several reasons, the port's activity lost momentum. Later, Bashundhara, the army welfare organization, and the big industrial group alloted plots to the industrial areas of the port. In that continuation, different industries were established in Mongla including cement, LPG plant, oil refineries. But we are not allocating new plots. "
On 9th January, it is seen in Mongla that on one side of the road, one LPG factory on one side of the road after crossing the two-storey bus stand of Mongla-Khulna highway. As well as cement and oil refineries, there are also some other factories. Construction of Petrox LP Gas Factory Three big-sized tanks have been installed already for gas storage. Pipeline has already been set up to bring the gas tank from the ship to the gas tank. The company wants to go to production next May. Naveena started production of LP gas factory on the opposite side of the petromax.
Orion LPG has planted 10 acres of land at Mongla port. They have gas storage capacity of 3 thousand metric tons in two tanks. The company started experimental production on 8 January. Today they are distributing 5 to 6 thousand cylinders LP gas in the day. On the condition of anonymity, an official of the company said that Orion has brought cylinders from Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia to LPG gas and India.
In 2001, Clean Hit Gas Company LPG Terminal in Mongla. In 2015, it goes to the Sri Lankan-owned company Laughs Gas. At present, the capacity of LPG gas in their terminal is 1,800 metric tons. They are selling 30,000 cylinders a day. At the same time there are 9 auto gas stations in different districts including Dhaka, Khulna, Jessore. From there, many cars carry LP gas as fuel.
Tosif Islam, Deputy Manager of Laughs Gas (Bangladesh) Department of Marketing said that the demand for LPG gas in the house is increasing. On the other hand, LPG gas will become popular as a fuel for transportation soon. Because MLS is available more than LPG gas than CNG. He said, although there is a lot of potential, there is a kind of ill-competitive competition in the market. Because of this, many institutions are not maintaining the quality of cylinders. For this, the government-related organization needs to take stringent measures.
Delta LPG is working on LPG gas production with lease of 5 acres of land. The factory is under construction in September with the aim of starting production. Their factory has a storage capacity of 4 thousand metric tonnes of LPG gas per month. They will now sell more than 3,000 cylinders per day. At the same time, Delta plans to set up a satellite station in some areas of the country. From Mongla, those stations will be preserved with gas. Then bottled (cylinders) will be released in the market.
Delta LPG General Manager SM Nasir Uddin Al Mamun said, "LPG demand is increasing every day. LPG will now be used as a fuel for the future, though there is a basic demand at home. There will be thousands of LPG or auto gas stations. At that station we also supply gas to the big tanker. This will increase the demand of LPG gas in the near future.
Delta LPG General Manager said that there is no free space around Chittagong Port. However, the Mongla Port Authority leased the relatively cheap land. The Rampal power plant is beside the side. The work of the Padma bridge is progressing fast. With these thoughts, the decision has been made to invest.
