But this rush towards the future faces significant obstacles, most notably:

1- Air traffic control system
Although the US Federal Aviation Administration has approved tests for many of the aircraft over the past two years, allowing consumers to drive their vehicles in the sky requires strict procedures and new systems for air traffic control.

Professor John Atchenbach, professor emeritus at McCormick College of Engineering at Northwestern University, says he cannot imagine plane airplanes flying the same way in urban environments like Chicago, because "air routes" in the sky must be designed to follow the normal course of the road from above as a secondary system, It seems very difficult, as soon as the car is flying will become subject to the Federal Aviation Administration, which is currently struggling to regulate the movement of small aircraft, not to mention the aircraft.

2- High cost
The cost of a single plane is expected to be less than $ 1 million, making it out of the reach of middle-class consumers.

But Clifford Winston, a researcher at the Brooklyn Institute of Economics, thinks it is ultimately the number of airliners that can be supported in the air, adding that millions of cars are needed to make the price affordable to ordinary consumers.

There is also the question of car batteries and whether they can be considered a source of energy strong enough to reach passengers to their goal before they run out. The flying cars are not like Tesla electric cars and cannot be stopped by the roadside to be powered.

3- Security
Although aircraft are one of the safest ways to travel, putting extra numbers of heavy vehicles in the air is a concern for both motorists and pedestrians on the ground.

"We do not want flying cars to fall from the sky on people's homes when the pilot gets sick or gets a heart attack," says Robert Gordon, a professor of social science at Northwestern University.

Unlike aircraft, jet drivers who get sick during flight will probably not have an emergency helpline.

Airline drivers should skip frequent physical tests like what pilots do, which is not ideal for travelers who hope to use their cars to go to work or school daily, according to Gordon.

Gordon also raises the issue of air traffic regulation, saying that it is not possible to allow cars to roam like cars on the roads, because there are no roads or traffic signs in the air. Passenger motorists also should pass tests in continuous wireless communications, requiring a pilot's license and a normal driver's license.

As laws regulating the movement of unmanned drones are still in their infancy, and motor vehicles continue to commit accidents on the ground, it may take a long time before the aircraft can take off.
