The rampant destruction of the Earth's precious resources is but an inevitable consequence of the sociopolitical matrix of democracy. A social system, in which the only qualification of governance is measured by popularity with the ill-educated, over-emotional rabble will ultimately produce incompetence at the highest echelons of power. The annual cycle of selecting rulers by the ignorant muck will obviously produce only myopic social policies, as the horizon of rulers reach only to the next election.

Bolsonaro is not interested in socioeconomic consequences of his policies because such effects will not be felt within his election cycle. As long as he can produce short-term gains, the idiots of the electorate will continue to elect him as their supreme leader. Coupled with this lunacy of a sociopolitical system is the erroneous capitalist premise of infinite expansion within a finite confines, then the populist whores and the obtuse electorate have all the rationalisation to burn every shrub for accumulation of shiney thing that clink.
