BTC-e is now ONLINE! (we'll be getting our money back soon!)
IT'S BACK
A few days I announced BTC-e is coming back after their government seizure.
They did it. The mad men did it. The website is online, and showing correct balances. The trollbox is restored.
While we can't withdraw, or trade yet, it's a great sign. Even if we only get back 45% of our balances, it's a hell of a lot better than 0.
Just over an hour ago, they announced on their Twitter that the site was online, under the https://btc-e.nz domain that everyone had suspected they would use.
They also created a Bitcointalk post. The basics of the post explained:
- BTC-e will be managed by a "licensed financial investment company", who will be dealing with the legal data transfer to the new company
- The "licensed financial investment company" will be managing the "restructuring of digital assets", i.e. figuring out if they can legally give us our 45% back
- Dealing with AML/KYC bullshit. In their previous post, they had claimed there would be a no-verification level, allowing people to trade and withdraw their coins without any AML/KYC verification, with some minor limitations.
- The balances will be re-calculated on the 2nd of September. That is when we'll figure out how much of our money we will be getting back, and how much we will get back in BTC-e tokens.
- Passwords have been forcefully reset, in-case that the US government has a record of them. As we all know about the silk road case, with the investigative officers using the seized BTC on nice cars and new houses, it wouldn't be surprising to see them hacking BTC-e accounts post-launch.

Do you think people will actually use BTC-E? Or take their money and run as fast as they can?
Good question... if mt gox were to come back online, what do you think folks would do? I'd guess take the money and run. Then maybe gox would incentivize folks to keep their cash there somehow, or just rebrand. Eventually they might be able to build confidence again, but it would take time.

It was one thing finding out it is returning and it is another to see the website online.
Well I can't go on to the website. I don't know if it is just being flooded with traffic, suffering from a DDOS attack or both.
Hopefully most people will get the money back they initially had in the exchange
