Redknapp: The story of Van Dijk and Liverpool has not ended
Indonesia - Former Liverpool player Jamie Redknapp admits confident the Reds can still bring in Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk. According to Redknapp, nothing is impossible in football.
Liverpool are eyeing Van Dijk in the summer transfer market. The Reds are even ready to spend 60 million pounds sterling (about Rp 1 trillion) to get the Dutchman's signature. However, Soton insists on keeping the player.
"In the future Liverpool have many different options. I'm still worried about the defense, and now they will be in the Champions League. I'm not sure Van Dijk's story is over. I still think Liverpool can bring it, "Redknapp told Sky Sports.
Liverpool had previously declared retreat from the Van Dijk hunt, after Southampton threatened to report them related to the illegal approach. However, the Reds continue to be associated with the former Glasgow Celtic defender.
"Liverpool have obviously retreated at the moment, but I still see Van Dijk still able to move there. He wants to play for Jurgen Klopp and I would not be surprised to see Liverpool buy it. "
"It could be one of the best summer purchases, because he will make such a difference. Van Dijk is a colossal player. He's fantastic in defense, coming forward, he scored and I think he is what Liverpool needs. "
Last season, Van Dijk made 30 appearances in all competitions with Soton and scored four goals. "If Liverpool can find a way to bring it, it will be a great buy for them," Redknapp added.
