This Futuristic "Invisible TV" Looks Just Like A Piece Of Glass When Turned Off!

in #news7 years ago

TV's are getting more and more advanced - bigger, better monitors, 4k Ultra HD Quality and so on.

But one thing still remains - they're bulky, and not very decorative.
Most TVs are a big, black hole when turned off, and a nightmare for every interior designer.
But Panasonic has come up with a solution to this, and a possible revolution to the TV industry:

A see-through TV made from a pane of glass!

Turned off, it's indistinguishable from regular glass.

Panasonic had created a transparent TV in early 2016, but this new "invisible" TV is an upgraded version and was only unveiled 6 months ago.
It's built into a glass sliding door so that its position can be adjusted, and the shelves or storage behind it can be easily accessed (and viewed through the glass!)

So when it's turned on the display is just as good and high quality as a regular TV, but once turned off, it will be totally unobtrusive and add to any minimalistic interior design!

So how does it work?

Panasonic has switched the previous LED screen with an OLED screen (Organic Light-Emitting Diode Technology).

The difference is that LED uses backlighting, while every pixel illuminates itself in an OLED display.

And the "secret" of the invisible screen is a fine mesh material which is embedded into the glass.
OLED is a fairly new technology with an enormous potential. It will be used for screens of all different kids - smartphones, TVs, monitors, car screens, laptops etc!

When will it be released?

Sadly, this is only a concept model for now.
Panasonic stated that their "invisible TV" will be in development for a little longer - at least 2 years from now on.
A price hasn't been mentioned yet either.
But all prototypes and tests at exhibitions have been working very well, so we're looking forward to the actual product release!

Would you prefer a see-through TV over a regular one? And what price would you be willing to pay for it?

Nice! :]

That's very innovative. It will save a lot of space for sure.

I'm curious to know what the price tag will be.

Me too. What would be reasonable in your opinion?
I think everything over $6k would be excessive, since the screen is not even that big. And you can get HUGE 4K Ultra HD screens for about that price.

I'm thinking somewhere in the area of 4k but even then I wouldn't buy it.

Great concept. Decorators will appreciate this improvement!

OMG I want to watch my novelas with a screen like that one! awesome!
