Blasting Operation of the Bonn-Center
Today one of the famous landmarks of my hometown Bonn, the 18-floor (196.850 feet) tall Bonn-Center, had been brought down by a controlled demolition with 550 pounds of explosives.History
The building had been constructed in 1968/69 and mainly served as a business center for the representatives and associates of the German Bundestag. It was Bonns 5th tallest building.There had been a hotel with 300 beds, a famous restaurant at the top level, conference rooms as well as a mall inside. It also hosted the famous Pantheon-Theatre and a huge bowling center in the basement.
After reunification of East and West-Germany in 1989, the parliament decided to choose Berlin as the new capital and seat of the government. Therefore most of the building wasn't used anymore.
Nevertheless there are plans to build a new Bonn-Center at the same place by the current owner, a Cologne based estate company.
