Opening of the Beskydy two-track tunnel in the Carpathians. Today in Ukraine the largest infrastructure object of the last decades has been discovered - the Beskid Tunnel. 24/05/2018

Beskid Tunnel is a railway tunnel in Ukraine, the second in length (after Lutuginsky). It is part of the Lviv railway. The historic tunnel in the single-walled version was built in 1886. In 2007, due to the emergency condition of the tunnel, it was decided to build a new two-track, which will take 22 meters from the old one. The Beskydy tunnel is located between Beskid and Skotarskoe stations in the Carpathians and is the fifth pan-European transport corridor Italy - Slovenia - Hungary - Slovakia - Ukraine - Russia.

Today, on May 24, I attended the ceremonial opening of the Beskydy two-track tunnel.

At the opening were the President of Ukraine, the leadership of Lviv and Zakarpattya, representatives of "Ukrzaliznytsia", etc. In order to quickly understand the personal and important such project, we offer brief facts about this tunel.

1. This is the second longest tunnel in Ukraine. The longest tunnel is Lutuginsky, which is located in the temporarily occupied territory.

2. The tunnel combines Transcarpathian and Lviv region, cut in the middle of the mountain at a depth of 180 meters.

3. Nearby there is a terrific Beskydy one-track tunnel, which is more than 130 years old, but it is in an emergency.

4. Two tracks allow you to increase the bandwidth by 2 times.

5. The cost estimate for construction was almost UAH 3 billion.

6. The length of the tunnel is 1764 m, the distance from the old tunnel is 22 meters. Thickness of a concrete layer is 70cm.

Сьогодні 24 травня я була присутня на урочистому відкритті Бескидського двоколійного тунелю. На відкритті були Президент України, керівництво Львівщини та Закарпаття, представники «Укрзалізниці» тощо.
Ось кілька коротких фактів про новий тунель.

1. Це другий за протяжністю тунель в Україні. Найдовший тунель це Лутугінський, який знаходиться на тимчасово окупованій території.

2. Тунель зєднує Закарпатську і Львівську область, прорублений в середині гори на глибині 180 метрів.

3. Поруч є страший одноколійний тунель Бескидський, якому понад 130 років, але він перебуває в аварійному стані.

4. Дві колії дозволиить збільшиити пропускну здатність в 2 рази.

5. Кошторис будівництва склав майже 3 мільярди гривень.

6. Довжина тунелю 1764 м, відстань від старого тунелю 22 метри. Товщина бетонного шару 70см.

At present, the capacity of the tunnel is clearly insufficient, which causes significant economic losses to the Lviv railway.

In 2006, Ukrzaliznytsia announced a tender for the reconstruction of the Beskid Tunnel.

Since 2007, design and survey work, exploration of relief and geodetic works are underway. For these works, $ 40 million was allocated from the EBRD. The Beskid Tunnel is the first significant element of the transit transport infrastructure of Ukraine, created during the years of independence with the attraction of foreign financial resources.The project envisages the construction of new access roads and the creation of a new two-track railway tunnel next to the existing, length 1822 m and the area of ​​the cross-section 115 m² .

Preparatory work commenced in 2011. Over the next two years, an international tender for selecting a contractor for the design and construction of a tunnel was held. In August 2013, the project was approved.

Immediately construction began in 2013.

На даний час пропускна здатність тунелю явно недостатня, що завдає значні економічні збитки Львівській залізниці.

У 2006 році «Укрзалізниця» оголосила тендер на реконструкцію Бескидського тунелю.

З 2007 року ведуться проектно-вишукувальні роботи, розвідка рельєфу і геодезичні роботи. На ці роботи виділено кошти в сумі 40 млн. доларів США від ЄБРР. Бескидський тунель — перший значний елемент транзитної транспортної інфраструктури України, що створюється за роки незалежності із залученням іноземних фінансових ресурсів.Проектом передбачено будівництво нових під'їзних шляхів і створення нового двоколійного залізничного тунелю поряд з діючим, завдовжки 1822 м і площею поперечного перетину 115 м².
Підготовчі роботи розпочато 2011 року. Впродовж наступних двох років було проведено міжнародний тендер з вибору підрядника для проектування та будівництва тунелю. У серпні 2013 року затверджено проект.
Безпосередньо будівництво розпочалося у 2013 році.
