Obama’s Charlottesville tweet becomes second most liked ever
The former president’s response to violence surpasses Ellen DeGeneres’ Oscar selfie for the No. 2 spot. An Ariana Grande tweet remains No. 1.
Barack Obama still resonates with the masses.
A Saturday tweet by the former US president became the second most liked in Twitter history, according to Twitter, reaching 2.5 million likes on Tuesday. The tweet, which quotes late South African President Nelson Mandela, followed white supremacist violence in Charlottesville, Virginia.
"No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin or his background or his religion," the tweet reads. It was posted along with a photo of Obama looking up to a window of children of different ethnicities and races.
The quote has also been retweeted more than 1 million times.
How did his tweet condemning the black lives matter motivated fellow who shot five cops in Dallas do? Oh that's right he had no response to that besides inviting BLM to the white house. He's also objectively incorrect insofar as infants prefer the company of those who look similar to themselves. Even if he was correct the kind of double standard created by that kind of selective condemnation is a significant part of what's enraging people.
