Scientists Just Figured Out The Most Precise Age of The Moon

The Moon is our one and only natural satellite. It’s beauty and magnificence have captured the imagination of countless people. We humans have been obsessed about the moon since the times of the early men.



It has been there for billions of years revolving around the Earth tirelessly. It was there when the first life form sprang up on our planet, it was there when the dinosaurs got wiped out and it was there when we raised our heads at the sky for the first time in our primate form.



Ever since we became evolved enough, we have tried to determine what it was truly made of, how it was formed and when. In time, we discovered that it was a rocky heavenly body but we are yet to fully conclude how it was formed.

As for the age of our moon, scientists had estimated for some time now, that the moon is around 4.4 billion years old with recent studies estimating that it is 4.47 billion years. They had calculated that the moon formed 95 million years after the formation of our solar system.



But, scientists have just pinpointed the most precise age of the Moon ever. They calculate that the moon is 4.51 billion years old and it was formed 60 million years after the solar system was formed.



The age difference from previous studies might not seem too significant on the astronomical scale but this can increase our understanding of the early solar system and even when life formed here on Earth.
