U.S. rules that CBD has no medicinal value, adding it to Schedule 1 controlled substance list

Whose interests are at heart one has to ask? Those of the people or those of the corporations? The answer is clear because CBD has been already been proven effective for so many medical conditions. My own mother uses it to help with her insomnia!

Just last week the federal U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a decision by the DEA to list cannabidiol (CBD) as a Schedule 1 controlled substance under the Controlled Substances Act.

Please note CBD has no psychoactive effects and is not the same as THC, the active ingredient that gets you high when you smoke marijuana.

Schedule 1 controlled substances are described here:

Schedule 1 (I) drugs, substances, or chemicals are defined by the federal government as drugs with no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse. Schedule 1 (I) drugs are the most dangerous drugs of all the drug schedules with potentially severe psychological or physical dependence. DEA.org

Just to clarify, methamphetamine (aka crystal meth), cocaine, fentanyl, and oxycodone all fall under the Schedule 2 category in the Controlled Substances Act, meaning that CBD is supposedly more dangerous than these drugs.

The agenda here is not about fixing medical problems but guaranteeing repeat business for the medical industry. Anyone can grow cannabis but not anyone can produce pharmaceutical drugs.

Right... now to let my mother know she is using a very dangerous drug which is in the same category as heroin!

What a joke.

Complete and utterly ridiculous lies all round. It's like the govt is not culpable and above reason; they kill us with lies as excuses.

Only those who are still asleep will be affected by this madness. Personally, the laws around this particular plant have never stopped me from doing what I want to do and based on your avatar am thinking you are the same ;)

It's just really sickening isn't it? But with so many states legalizing cannibus for medical AND recreational use, our "great and mighty" government is going to have to address it on a much much larger scale. We are approaching the half way mark for states that have legalized in some form or another. I guess we wait to see how it all turns out in time. Thanks for raising awareness of this terrible decision.

Am baffled how the federal court can get away with decisions like this? Eventually they will have to face the facts. Had no idea that as many as half the states are already on track!

That's a cool word art leaf! Did you find that, generate it or make it? I've made some where you fill in generic shapes, but they never offered a pot leaf haha.

If you hit the image it will take you to where I got it... Pixabay ;)

meh, they are still selling CBD products at my dog food store. There has not been any enforcement and congress is attempting to fix this bureaucratic overstep.
The industry is also appealing the ruling.

FYI Nationwide there have been several arrests and in some places "CBD" products have been seized from dispensaries. Just because it is not being "enforced" does not mean it is not 'illegal" the same as "marijuana" is also a schedule one drug. Our sites have numerous stories on this enforcement or in this case the lack of.

I heard of one state where they briefly got confused and started a crackdown on CBD but they stopped that pretty much right after they were mocked for it. Who was arrested?

Good to hear there has not been any enforcement of this crazy situation.

Let's hope they win the appeal.

Hopefully, sounds like maybe one of those situations where they are making the wrong argument in court. Republicans in congress are working hard to legalize CBD, hemp and cannabis on the federal level.

It should be duly noted that alcohol is the worst drug by far. It is extremely addictive and the withdrawal from it (not to mention imbibing it) has the potential to kill its user. However, that remains legal and readily available. All while a plant that can be grown by all, as you stated, remains demonized to the point of lunacy. It is a blatant disregard of our rights. Not just as citizens, but as human beings. Blame Harry Anslinger, America's first commissioner of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics. Bought and paid for by the Federal Reserve bankers!

After their successes with Alcohol Prohibition, as in the creation of a Black Market that brought them ungodly profits, they sought another target to get filthy rich from. Lo and behold, Reefer Madness sparked the never-ending Drug War and a whole new Black Market that continues to this day. A war which inevitably spiraled out of control and become one against the human mind. A brainwashing scheme that has been incredibly successful for generations.

What a farce. What a tragedy. Lady Liberty weeps at the decrepit state of our blessed union. Thankfully we have the internet today. Because as our technology increases, their credibility declines. Meaning it is only a matter of time before the majority awakens to the sad state of our country's affairs.

With all that being said, I thank you for the update. I truly hope this ruling is not upheld. For all our sakes.

I have cited the alcohol argument so many times...to alcohol drinking weed haters! It only makes sense when we fully understand the control/money system.

Reading the top comment here it would seem the situation is not as grave as I thought. If it isn't being enforced not much sure what is the point of all the drama in a court. Though what people will see in their media is the court decision... not the reality that the law isn't being enforced! So, the general effect on the (sleeping) public remains.

It's still bull. A blatant disregard for all Americans' freedoms. If it doesn't PHYSICALLY hurt anyone, why even bother creating legislation? Especially when it is a known cure for hundreds of maladies. Money truly is the root of all evil in this world. Such a shame.

Not the first time something so helpful has been ruined by government that has no idea...
