Historical meeting between Moon and Kim
For the first time in more than a decade, the leaders of North Korea and South Korea are meeting to negotiate the end of a long struggle that at times has threatened to plunge the world into a nuclear war.
The leaders of the two countries, technically still at war, have been greeted by the honor guard of South Korea, who wore traditional costumes.
Moon was the first to arrive in the area to which Kim has moved shortly after from Pyongyang, the North Korean capital.
Kim crossed the line of military demarcation that separates the two Koreas in a historic gesture that makes him the first North Korean leader to set foot on the South since the war between the two Koreas ended in 1953, a conflict closed by a ceasefire but not for a peace treaty.
The key issue on the table is the denuclearization of North Korea, the main objective of Moon Jae-in and also of the president of the United States, Donald Trump who will closely follow the meeting to measure the chances of success of his possible meeting with Kim Jong-un that should occur between the end of May and the beginning of June.
