Agreement between ESA and NASA to bring samples of Mars

in #news6 years ago

The spacecraft in orbit and on the surface of Mars have made many exciting discoveries, transforming the understanding of the planet and discovering clues about the formation of the Solar System, in addition to helping to understand the Earth, but so far, all the machines that we have sent to Mars they have not been able to study the red planet as it should.

In a joint effort, ESA and NASA plan to bring to the Earth several samples of the Martian soil through exploration missions to the red planet during the next decade.

The project consists in that the two missions already planned for Mars, that is, the Mars Rover of 2020 planned by NASA, and the ExoMars Rover of 2021 planned by the ESA, are coordinated so that later the samples collected would be loaded in a small rocket that would be launched from the soil of Mars.

After the launch, this small aircraft would be captured by a ship sent from Earth.

According to reports, the ship that collects these samples would return to Earth, specifically to the United States, where the material from the red planet would be quarantined before being analyzed by a team of international scientists.

It should be noted that NASA and ESA signed an agreement in 2009 to collaborate in the exploration of Mars - which included the recovery of samples in the next decade - but the project was canceled in 2011 by the US agency after a budget adjustment.
