Is Facebook Taking Over Tinder?

in #news7 years ago (edited)

Facebook is working on a new feature very similar to the popular online dating service Tinder, which allows users to meet in real life.

It is reported that with the new feature one will be able to make a separate list of potential partners to meet and hang out with. Moreover, communication will be possible if the desire is mutual. Instead of swiping left or right as it is with Tinder, Facebook asks people if they are willing to meet up with a particular person they've been offered. Users can choose between "No Thanks", and "Yes". If there is a mutual agreement the messenger allows the participants to send messages to each other, letting them know they have shown interest in meeting each other.

It's unclear what are the principles that Facebook will be using to match people. Also how these people are chosen remains a mystery. The service is now being tested in Canada and New Zeland. It's also unclear when it will be released over a wider user base. Facebook has been known to copy features from other services like Snapchat, for example. It looks like Tinder may be the next candidate.
