INTERESTING ANIMALS: This Australian mouse dies from Sex after mating Orgy!

This little cutie is one of 10 species of marsupial mice and while it may look like the typical house mouse, I assure you it is no such thing! For one, well, it's a marsupial, this means it carries it's babies in a pouch after it gives birth. Two, it eats insects, spiders, cockroaches, lizards and frogs instead of cheese (really plants and crumbs) like normal mice. And last but not least, it's active during the day and the night, how about that!

Well now you may be thinking I forgot something, and I did it on purpose. The only reason you want to hear about this little guy (and it is only the males), is that he dies after he has sex. That's right folks, about 2 weeks after this dude gets lucky for the first (and only) time in his life, he will die. That's after living for exactly 11.5 months. Now the females on the other hand are a little luckier. They have a 10-50% chance of getting lucky twice, not great odds, but better than the males. The other weird thing is that all the animals from a population all have breed at the same time, in the same place, and the males are into some pretty kinky shit. Copulation gets pretty violent with the men biting the lady's necks before moving on to other partners. Two weeks later and all the males are dead.

Was it stress-induced immune system breakdown or just the fact he won't ever be able to look at his brothers and sisters the same again? I guess we'll never know. But we do know that the Antechinus are very interesting animals, and have some pretty cool other traits to, if you can be bothered to do some reading.
