My question is, if they had the documents but were not uploaded to wikileaks why upload them at all? Why would the DNC want to destroy HC's chances of being president. They went out they're way to get rid of Bernie so HC would get the nomination.
They knew their emails were eventually going to be leaked anyway so they came up with the Guccifer 2.0 plan to force the Russian narrative.
The last thing the DNC wanted to admit was the leaks came from within.
Also setting it up like this could potentially allow for the unmasking of Trump associates.
When the DNC identified Seth Rich as the leaker, through using Squiggle to identify him via the watermarks his devices left on the documents he copied, they had two choices regarding the dump: 1) take the beating and suffer the consequences of all the illegality revealed, or 2) preempt the release and potentiate the offensive defense to those charges that is the Russia narrative, which also potentiates some defense to the unlawful surveillance undertaken by the Obama administration of the Trump campaign, by coating it in a pretext of justification, which otherwise was sure to be discovered by Trump eventually, anyway.
Edit: either way, imho, Seth Rich was a dead man.
