The two countries have started removing landmines from North and South Korea border areas. As part of the strong joint security zone (JSA) of the two countries, the work of moving the mine has already started from Panamunj village of South Korea. There are more than eight million mines in the border of the two countries.

According to BBC Online news, last month a decision was taken between North Korea's Pyongyang's leader Kim Jong-un and South Korean President Moon Je-in to remove the mine from the border area. The mines will be moved from where hundreds of soldiers were killed in the war in Korea.

South Korean Defense Minister said in a statement on Monday that the mines in the JSA area will be removed within 20 days.

Within the face of the army, JSA is the only group-free area.

It was informed in the statement that after the removal of the mine, the checkpost and arms will be removed. As part of tension in border areas, the decision to deploy troops without arms was taken.

In April, South Korea had announced that they had stopped the propaganda through the loud speaker at the border to ease military tensions between the two Koreas. Loud speakers are now being dropped.

DMZ is a width of 250 kilometers long and 4 kilometers wide in the Korean Peninsula. The entire area has heavy mines. Besides, there was a strong barbed wire fencing. Surveillance cameras and electric wire fences are also in full place. A large number of soldiers were kept there for both countries.

In November last year, a North Korean soldier was wounded by his own forces due to crossing the JSA area in South Korea's Panjum.

According to the information given by South Korea authorities, many people in North Korea left South Korea after Kim Jong-un came to power seven years ago.

Although the war in Korea ended in 1953, the war between North and South Korea was sustained. In the last few months, relations between the two countries are improving. Last month two leaders met in Pyongyang in connection with a nuclear disarmament negotiation. These meetings were held after a historic meeting in Singapore between Kim Jong-un and US President Donald Trump in June, to eliminate the Korean Peninsula's nuclear weapon.
