RE: Poll shows 61% of Reddit Socialists Live With Their Parents - Many Unemployed and Little of them Support Free Speech

in #news7 years ago

An alternative explanation is that Reddit users with radical left wing views are disproportionately young (under 30) and young people are more likely to live with their parents - 33% of those under 30 live with their parents in the UK, and disproportionately male - young men are twice as likely to live with their parents compared to women.

On that basis, left wing reddit users are about as likely to live home as any other reddit users!

The stats are very similar in most developed countries.

I blogged about why this is the case here - https://revisesociology.com/2015/09/13/explaining-why-so-many-young-adults-live-with-their-parents/ -

I don't think political views have much to do with why people live at home with their parents.

As to other aspects, supporting 'violent protest' and being against 'free speech' - polls tell us little about what these people actually mean by these views - I'm sure each respondent has their own ideas about the limits and applicability of both of these, rather than these being 'blanket' opinions.

Thanks for posting something with some actual data I could get stuck into though!
